Anke Koelman

MHSc, Naturopth

Anke was born in the Netherlands. She graduated with a Doctorandus degree (Drs)
from the University of Leyden in 2 Majors: Biochemistry and Mathematics and Theory
of Education as her sub-Major. She taught Organic chemistry and Biochemistry at
Universities in the USA and UK before coming to Australia in 1984, where in 1985
her third child, Friso, was born with a severe brain injury.

To help him improve, Anke learned many techniques such as Suggestopaedia
(Superlearning), Educational Kinesiology, Brain Gym® and Neuro-Organisation
Technique (NOT). She also started working privately with children with Dyslexia and
other learning difficulties and had a lot of success applying these new techniques.
Friso also suffered from recurrent bronchitis for which he was given antibiotics and
he became severely constipated. This led her on a journey that involved studying
Naturopathy, Western Herbal Medicine, Homoeopathy and a Master’s degree in
Health Sciences, specialising in Nutrition Medicine.

In the 1990s, Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder became more prevalent. Many
of these children suffered from food sensitivities. At the beginning of the 21 st Century,
there was a dramatic increase in Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Anke
became particularly interested in reversing the course of regressive autism, which
prompted her to study the bio-medical approach through the MINDD Practitioner
DAN training in 2006, 2007, 2009 and MAPS trainings in 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018 and
2019.

Anke directs the Optimum Learning & Health Centre in South Australia
(optimumlearningandhealth.com). She is a fully registered teacher in SA, an
educational consultant as well as a Professional trainer and has developed a series
of courses for teachers, early childhood educators, parents and Kinesiologists on
how to improve Autism, ASD, AD(H)D, developmental delay, learning difficulties and
(gut) health.

She received several awards: the Australian Kinesiology Association (AKA) award for
outstanding contribution to the growth in awareness of Kinesiology within the
community (2002), South Australian Chapter of the Alumni Association of the
University of New England Scholarship (UNE) Award for Outstanding Academic and
Personal Achievement (May 2003 and 2004), Dean’s Merit Award for Outstanding
Achievement in the Master of Health Science, UNE (March 2005), Bettalife
Distributors and BioResearch Excellence Award for All Round Excellence in Studies,
Adelaide Training College (May 2006), MINDD Foundation: the Inspiring Change
Award Australia (2009).
During her career Anke received several awards: Australian Kinesiology Association

Her chapter is titled: Gut Revelations. It is a self-help chapter for anyone who would
like to know how you can recognise the warning signals of poor gut health and what
you can do about it.

Anke now specialises in the recovery of (regressive) Autism & Autism Spectrum
Disorders (ASD), developmental delay, learning difficulties, AD(H)D and other
chronic conditions affecting children and adults. She developed Autism Recovery
Therapy (ART), Integrative therapy, Neuro-developmental therapy, Targeted
Individualised Nutrition Therapy for the Recovery of Autism & Autism Spectrum
Disorders (TINTRA) as well as the SureReading method and LiveMaths programme
to address these conditions.

Beyond the Diagnosis: Rethinking ARFID Through a Holistic Lens

ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) is being diagnosed at increasing rates, yet many children receive this label without a thorough investigation into underlying causes. This presentation challenges the assumption that ARFID is purely behavioural and explores biomedical drivers such as coeliac disease, gut dysbiosis, nutrient deficiencies, and toxic load. Through case studies and clinical insights, attendees will learn why a holistic, multidisciplinary approach is essential before accepting an ARFID diagnosis.

A Universal Brain-Based Model of ASD and Comprehensive Multimodal Treatment Approach To Remediation.

It is very hard to clinically change a condition if you don’t know what is happening in the brain and in the body. Autism is one of the most complex conditions of all neurobehavioral issues. There is such a wide variety of symptoms yet there are specific similarities that make it a spectrum. What has been missing is a Universal model of autism that explains all the variations of presentation and symptoms in terms of the brain. Autism is foundationally a brain developmental issue and the brain regulates every system. The root cause is in the brain. In this lecture we will tie all of this together into one comprehensive model of autism in specific terms of advanced functional neuroanatomy and brain development. We will then connect it to all motor, sensory, cognitive, immune, autonomic, and detoxification issues. Understanding the root cause we will then describe the specific goals of a comprehensive multimodal treatment program that is designed to specifically address the root cause of autism and all associated symptoms. This model provides insights into a range of brain conditions including; ADHD, OCD, ODD, learning and language delay, mood disorders.

Brain Stem Autonomic Nuclei Development as The Root Cause of Gut Dysfunction, Neuroinflammation, and Immune Dysregulation.

Immune and Autonomic dysregulation plays a major role in ASD, ADHD and developmental delay. Leaky gut, food sensitivities, malabsorption, motility issues, chronic inflammation, autoimmunity and many more are all common in learning delay and behavioural conditions. In this lecture we will show how the root cause of all of these issues starts in the development of the brain stem. The brain develops from the bottom up and it starts in the medulla and PONs. Primitive reflexes come from those areas as well, retained reflexes interfere with the normal maturation of the medulla and brain stem. This prevents the maturity and development of parasympathetic nuclei in the medulla which leads to many gut and immune issues. We will discuss the role of sympathetic vs parasympathetic in pro inflammatory and anti inflammatory responses and how this is related to the balance of TH1 and TH2 systems in the immune system.

Brain Asymmetry Maturational Hemispheric Delays, Imbalances and Variations in Symptoms of Developmental Delay

Autism is considered a spectrum because there can be such a wide variation in symptoms. How can we understand this variation of symptoms that can impact all systems in the body in different ways. In this lecture we will discuss the evolution and development of brain asymmetry in the human brain. We will also begin to create a model of autism that can explain all the variations in symptoms along the spectrum in terms of advanced functional neuroanatomy and maturational developmental hemispheric imbalances. This model provides insight into other brain conditions including; ADHD, learning and language delay, mood and socialisation conditions.

Unique features of Human Brain – Development, Milestones, Interoception, Proprioception, Immunoception and the Neuroscience of Speech

Why Can’t Kids With Autism Speak? 40 % of those on the spectrum have non or low speaking Autism. No one has clearly explained what prevents them from speaking. Many of these kids have hyperlexia and they seem to have all the words available, and they understand fully. So why can’t they speak? In this lecture we will use advanced developmental functional neuroanatomy to explain the unique features of human brain development and also the unique vulnerabilities. We will discuss the importance of prenatal and post-natal milestones, their relationship to movement and primitive reflexes and what happens if they are missed or skipped. We will understand the role and neuroanatomy of interoception, proprioception and how this impacts speech in Nonspeaking autism. We will also discuss the concept of immunoception which relates to the brain’s lead in sensing and regulating inflammation and anti inflammation in the body.

Julie Matthews

MS, Nutrition

Julie Matthews is a Certified Nutrition Consultant and published researcher who received her master’s degree in medical nutrition, with distinction, from Arizona State University. She is a globally respected nutrition expert, published researcher, award-winning author, and inspirational educator. Her guidance is backed by over twenty years of clinical experience and scientific research with complex neurological and physiological needs; particularly autism. She has lectured in more than 60 cities across three continents, been on television, radio, newspaper, blogs/podcasts and more, and published scientifically referenced articles in journals and websites. Julie’s been featured by Price-Pottenger, honored by the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, sits on two scientific advisory boards including the Autism Nutrition Research Center. Julie is co-author of “gold standard” scientific research published in the journal Nutrients, demonstrating the efficacy of diet and nutrition intervention for autism spectrum disorder and a study on “The Effectiveness of 13 Therapeutic Diets for Autism” published in the Journal of Personalized Medicine.

Lisa Moane

Naturopath

Lisa is an experienced naturopath, dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the children she cares for. She founded The Paediatric Naturopath, one of Australia’s leading online Naturopathy clinics focussed solely on the needs of children. Larry Palevsky

MD, FMAPS

Larry Palevsky is a New York State licensed pediatrician, who utilizes a holistic approach to children’s wellness and illness. Dr. Palevsky received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in 1987, completed a three-year pediatric residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 1990, and served as a pediatric fellow in the ambulatory care out-patient department at Bellevue Hospital, New York City, from 1990-1991. Since 1991, his clinical experience includes working in pediatric emergency and intensive care medicine, in-patient, and out-patient pediatric medicine, neonatal intensive care medicine, newborn and delivery room medicine, and conventional, holistic and
integrative pediatric private practice. Dr. Palevsky is a diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, and Past–President of the American Holistic Medical Association. He received his pediatric board certification in 1990, and passed his pediatric board recertification exams in 1997, 2004, and 2011.

Advances in personalised medicine have expanded the clinical application of genomics, yet many variants with direct relevance to neurodevelopmental outcomes remain under-recognised in mainstream practice. This presentation draws on over 15 years of original research and clinical application investigating genes related to autism and ADHD. Focusing on a selection of high-impact SNPs rarely addressed in conventional frameworks, the session will explore their roles in key biological pathways underlying cognition, attention, language development, fussy eating, obsessive–compulsive traits, and emotional regulation. Mechanisms discussed include neurotransmitter signalling, neuroimmune interactions, synaptic plasticity, neuroinflammation, and cognitive flexibility—alongside practical, evidence-informed strategies to support these pathways.

See, dentistry is a very personal thing for me. After all, you’re entrusting me with your health, and maybe even your family’s. It’s really an honour.

What drives me is my deep commitment to empowering my patients with optimal health. This means pushing myself to find the cutting edge of not just dentistry, but also medicine. The latter has been covered by my endless study in the field of quantum biology. However the former was unfinished business.

Carlo Rinaudo

Dr Carlo Rinaudo is a registered Chiropractor, researcher, and educator with over 25 years of clinical experience in the management of complex neurological and vestibular conditions. He is the Founder and Clinical Director of Brain Hub and Brain Hub Kids, multidisciplinary clinics in Sydney specialising in functional neurology and brain-based rehabilitation for both adults and children.

Dr Rinaudo holds a PhD in Vestibular Rehabilitation from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Neuroscience Research Australia, where his research focused on innovative approaches to balance and vestibular dysfunction. He remains actively involved in research, currently contributing to studies on post-concussion syndrome in collaboration with Macquarie University.

He holds multiple postgraduate qualifications in functional neurology, sports injury management, and childhood neurodevelopment, and is an early adopter of advanced technologies and therapies. Suzanne Labrie

Dr. Suzanne Labrie is an experienced chiropractor with over 25 years in clinical practice. She holds an Honours degree in Biochemistry and Pharmacology as well as a Master’s in Chiropractic. Liz Mumper

MD, FAAP, IFMCP

Dr. Elizabeth Mumper, MD, FAAP, IFMCP, is a seasoned pediatrician with several decades of experience in clinical practice and medical education. Dr. Mumper’s extensive clinical experience includes over a decade as Director of Pediatric Education in a Family Practice Residency Program, 16 years as clinical faculty at the University of Virginia, and five years as Medical Director of the Autism Research Institute. Her dedication to pediatric education extends to her current role on the faculty of the Medical Academy for Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS), where she developed the first advanced clinical training in pediatrics for the Institute of Functional Medicine, of which she is also a certified member. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Mumper has contributed to the medical field through writing book chapters, publishing her clinical research from the Rimland Center in peer-reviewed journals, and lecturing both nationally and internationally. Her commitment to pediatric health and education has made significant impacts in the field, providing invaluable resources and knowledge to both medical professionals and parents. She is the originator of FLCCC’s I-CARE: For Kids treatment guide, which aids parents in preventing and managing COVID-19 in their children. John Gaitanis

MD, Pediatric Neurologist

John Gaitanis, MD, is a pediatric neurologist at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Gaitanis received his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Strong Memorial Hospital through the University of Rochester Medical School, as well as a residency in neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital through Harvard Medical School. He completed a fellowship in epilepsy and neurophysiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center through Harvard Medical School.

His clinical research focuses on finding improved biomarkers and therapeutics for epilepsy, and improving EEG signal acquisition with advancements in electrode design and software processing techniques.

Dr. Gaitanis previously served as an associate professor of pediatrics at Tufts Medical School and chief of pediatric neurology at Tufts Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Gaitanis is a member of several professional organizations including the Child Neurology Society, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Epilepsy Society.

Anju Singh

Dr. Anju Usman Singh is director and owner of True Health Medical Center and Pure Compounding Pharmacy in Naperville, Illinois. She serves as Chief Science Officer for family-owned nutraceutical company, True Healing Naturals. She specializes in biomedical interventions for children with ADD, Autism, PANDAS/PANS, Down Syndrome and related disorders. Shas been involved in research regarding copper/zinc imbalances, metallothionein dysfunction, biofilm related infections and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. PANS & PANDAS are complex autoimmune diseases that require a multi-system approach. PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep) involves antibodies from a strep infection reacting with brain tissue (specifically the basal ganglia in the brain) and triggering an abrupt onset of immune dysregulation and movement, learning and behavioral problems including OCD, anxiety and tics. Kids and COVID

When COVID first emerged, everyone was confused – doctors, parents, patients,
government officials, and agency workers. However, it emerged rather quickly that COVID was
not a mortal threat for healthy children and adolescents. Nor were children with COVID a
transmission threat to immuno-compromised patients or vulnerable elderly. Dr. Mumper will
share her perspective, derived from four years of COVID research and collaboration, on how
different strategies should have been adopted during the first year of the crisis. She will argue
that mandates were never a good idea, that critical analysis of the initial clinical trials would
have led to different decisions, and that what the public was told differed from emerging
scientific truth.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Parents will understand the concept of stratified risk, in this case by looking at age as a
    risk factor. In COVID, the risk for children was miniscule.
  • Parents will learn how to make risk benefit decisions for their children. How significant

Kids & COVID

COVID in healthy children and adolescents was very different than COVID in sick
adults with multiple co-morbidities. Dr. Mumper will argue that a “one size fits all” strategy
focused on a novel gene therapy technology was misguided. She will review the data about risk
factors, early treatment and potential repurposed medications. She will outline the fallacies
inherent in testing and isolating people without symptoms and review the limitations of PCR
testing.
The vaccine “safe and effective” mantra is not nuanced enough to describe what really
happened during roll-outs of COVID injections. Dr. Mumper will critically analyse evidence that
the shots were not studied for and did not decrease transmission, that those who received
injections were more likely to get COVID multiple times, and that more adverse events were
reported than for other vaccines combined. She will share documentation of adverse events in
the following categories: cardiac, autoimmune, reproduction, cancer, and neurologic.
Clinicians may leave the lecture pondering such topics as the autonomy of healers, the role of
truly informed consent, and the insertion of politics into medical crises.

Food, lifestyle and our environment all play fundamental roles in our state of health, the functioning of our physiology and our cell danger response.  To move from the absolutely necessary defence-physiology of the Cell Danger Response, to the healing physiology of the Healing Cycle we need energy and resources.  This is why food, lifestyle and environment are so key to our state of health.  We also need to remove the threat.  Another often-missed threat resolution that is required for the Healing Cycle to function however, is to resolve (most often subconscious) states of threat to survival.   Fortunately by learning to understand the somatic (felt) language of our nervous system, we can start to interpret the messages of what we (and our loved ones) truly need in order to regulate, comfort and heal. By doing this, all other choices we make around food, lifestyle, environment and even medications and biohacking devices will have a much greater beneficial impact. Perceived or real threats to our survival are imprinted by our infant years (and can occur later in life, a result of traumas).  Without understanding or somatic tools to be able to resolve or discharge these imprints, they leave us living in a chronic survival state of sympathetic dominance, AKA fight or flight mode.   This survival response stimulates the cell danger response, and elicits a cascade of neurological, immunological and endocrine consequences that result in inflammation, autoimmunity and an array of chronic disease.   It is in fact, often unbeknownst to us, the driving factor behind most chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and illness.  Fortunately by learning to understand the somatic (felt) language of our nervous system, we can start to interpret the messages of what we (and our loved ones) truly need in order to regulate, comfort and heal. CONNECTOMICS: a paradigm shift in the diagnosis and management of all brain disorders.

Connectomics is the evolving understanding of the human brain. In 2009, the US government dedicated millions of dollars and thousands of scientific man-hours to try and improve our understanding of what has been called “the last frontier”. In 2016 this huge body of work was distilled in a single article published in NATURE by Glasser et al. However, applying this knowledge to clinical practice was impossible until a team of the brightest minds worked together to develop an app that could be used to assess the one organ that had previously never been visualised or quantified, the brain. CT and MRI scans give advanced images of how the brain looks but tell nothing of how it is working. If you examine the MRI of a patient with schizophrenia, it is structurally normal, and yet the patient’s behaviour is far from normal.  This newfound knowledge has been utilised to treat patients with structurally normal conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, CTE, addiction etc. This presentation will explain the mechanism behind transcranial magnetic stimulation and give exciting examples of patient benefits and how the future is bright for all patients with any brain disorder.

By doing this, all other choices we make around food, lifestyle, environment and even medications and biohacking devices will have a much greater beneficial impact. Perceived or real threats to our survival are imprinted by our infant years (and can occur later in life, a result of traumas).  Without understanding or somatic tools to be able to resolve or discharge these imprints, they leave us living in a chronic survival state of sympathetic dominance, AKA fight or flight mode.   This survival response stimulates the cell danger response, and elicits a cascade of neurological, immunological and endocrine consequences that result in inflammation, autoimmunity and an array of chronic disease.   It is in fact, often unbeknownst to us, the driving factor behind most chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and illness.  Fortunately by learning to understand the somatic (felt) language of our nervous system, we can start to interpret the messages of what we (and our loved ones) truly need in order to regulate, comfort and heal. Biochemical Basis of the Integrative Approach

This whirlwind presentation will cover the biochemistry that underlies the integrative/biomedical approach. We will cover the methylation pathways and how they connect to sulfation and detoxification. We will dive into mitochondrial, its impact on cell signaling, and the importance of the cell danger response. We will look at the chemistry of membrane lipids and foundations of the type and balance of the fats that make up our membranes. Dr Heather Way completed her PhD in molecular pathology and Master’s qualification in molecular physiology at the University of Queensland in Australia. Dr Way is in the unique position of being an Autism researcher, Clinician and Autism Mum (to two fully recovered, now adult sons). It was the diagnosis of ASD and ADHD for her sons that led her to repurpose her skill set to the field of autism genomics research 14 years ago. She earned a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh.
